Our vision is to provide Brave Spaces where people who are seeking recovery from any addiction can be in community with other people seeking recovery, grow in their relationship with God/Higher Power, learn together, share together and serve one another and those we meet.

Recovery Church is a growing network of communities. The first one started on Zoom in the first Lockdown and continues weekly on Zoom on Sunday evenings 6-7pm. We have a in-person service at Newcastle Cathedral on Wednesday evenings 6-7:30pm, and there is a fledgling couple of communities in Strathclyde (Glasgow) and in partnership with SISCO.

Deacon Tracey Hume is a Methodist Minister working in the Newcastle upon Tyne District. She oversees the network of Recovery Church communities. She works alongside Revd Jon Canessa who is the Lantern Initiative Lead based at Newcastle Cathedral . The Glasgow communities are facilitated by Revd Laurent Vernet. There are also a team of people from the communities to help facilitate the services.
On 20th March 2024 we held a big event at Newcastle Cathedral. It was a chance for civic, business and third sector leaders to hear the stories and experiences of many people who have addictions, especially around the stigma of addiction and the impact of how they have been engaged with on their recovery and mental health. Over 100 people turned out and was well received. New opportunities to speak to those with power and influence in this area have now begun to open up. Watch this space for developments.
We created a song to help communicate some of our experiences. We worked with Sean Cooney from the folk trio, The Young 'Uns to write the lyrics then he went away and recorded it to a tune. The song and video will appear here soon.
